Scouts BSA Troop 2860 Girls
Founded in 1988, our Boys Troop began with a modest founding group of six Scouts (above). Originally chartered with Woodlake United Methodist Church, Troop 2860 built its foundations over decades of youth-led adventure and community service, growing into one of the largest and most vibrant Scouting units in the state.
A major milestone in our history came in 2019 with the launch of our Girls Troop when Scouts BSA expanded the program to include girls.
Today, chartered by the Friends of Pocahontas State Park, we continue a rich tradition of empowering young leaders through hands-on outdoor experiences, character development, and adult mentorship.
Troop 2860 Boys and Girls Troops operate as two independent linked Troops working side-by-side under a unified Committee.
Each Troop has its own Scoutmaster and Senior Patrol Leader-led youth staff. The Troops run separate weekly meetings and program planning to tailor experiences to their Scouts.
Each Troop chooses its own camping trips and activities based on member interest.
While each Troop maintains its own calendar, we regularly come together for major joint campouts, service projects, and Court of Honor ceremonies.
At Troop 2860, youth run the show. Our Scouts lead meetings and events in front of their peers, building real leadership skills through real responsibility — not always the way adults would do it, but that's the point. We call it learning to lead.
We give our youth leaders training and support, but nothing replaces hands-on experience. Watching them grow over each six-month term is one of the best parts of being a Troop 2860 adult leader. Come see it for yourself!
