November 2004 Nauticus Trip

Troop 860's November Webelos Visitation
We're traveling to Norfolk to visit the Nauticus then camping at Camp
Pendleton State Military Base in Virginia Beach, VA. We're departing on
Saturday, Nov 20 at 8:00 AM and returning on Sunday, Nov 21 at approximately 1:00 PM.

The cost per person will be $15.00 - this fee will cover the Nauticus
admission fee, and the Camp Pendelton Fees, as well as transportation.
Important Notes
Headcount - I need to have a headcount established by Nov 15. Please let me know via email or phone call if you plan to attend. This is very important as I need to pay the Nauticus Naval Museum in advance.
Lodging
We will be camping in barracks, but the Scouts will need to bring a sleeping bag. The barracks are heated, but I imagine they'll be plenty drafty. (Be prepared!)
Meals
We want this camping experience to be a true Boy Scout camping, thus we want the Scouts to Cook in their patrols with the Boy Scouts.

Saturday Lunch -
Pack a sack lunch for Saturday, or bring some lunch money to eat at the Nauticus Center - this isn't included in the fees.

Saturday Dinner - At Camp Pendleton - The Scouts cook and eat dinner with the Boy Scout Patrols. This means the Webelos Dens need to organize and bring their Dinner at as a "Patrol". The Troop will supply the cooking stoves. Scouts should probably invest in a Scout Mess kit (found at Walmart, Dicks) They're inexpensive, and eliminate waste associated with paper plates, cups, etc.

Meal Ideas - Keep it simple.

Here are some ideas -. Hobo Packs are a
good idea, but you can always defer to the Boy Scouts favorite meal - Ramen Noodles, Dehydrated Soups are a good idea, or even pick up one of the dehydrated backpacking meals at Walmart. You can always pack a few hot dogs in a cooler and roast them on a spit over a fire.

Sunday Breakfast
Troop 860 will sponsor a Pancake Breakfast
Supervision
Please plan for at least 1 adult leader (or parent) per 4 Webelos.
