2010 Henricus Campout

Dates – May 14-16. Leave Friday evening at 5:30 and return Sunday morning at noon.
 
Location - Dutch Gap Conservation Area, Chesterfield County.
 
Activities:
  • Fishing (Leader needed)
  • Paddling (canoe and kayak- Lead/McNeil)
  • Nature Study – (Leader needed)
  • Service Project – (Leader needed)
  • Hike with Geocache option – (Leader needed)
Preparation – These activities will be programmed into the troop calendar before the campout.
  • Swim test for new scouts. May 2nd 7pm.
  • Safety afloat training. May 12th.
  • Fishing Tips . May 5th.
  • Hiking and Geocache. April 28th.
  • Service project. May 12th.
Campout Schedule
Friday 
  • Meet WUM @ 5:30. Depart 5:45. Bring brown bag dinner or eat before leaving.
  • Arrive at Dutch Gap Conservation Area @6:15-6:30
  • Park vehicles in lot. Organize hike into campsite while gear vehicles shuttle in scout gear and boats.
  • Conduct safety talk at campsite before set-up.
  • Camp setup
  • Activity signup.
  • Cracker Barrel
Saturday
  • Breakfast 7:30-8:30 (Patrol cooking)
  • Activity setup 8:30
  • 1st.Activity Period 9-11
  • Lunch 11 - 12
  • 2nd Activity Period 12-2
  • 3rd Activity Period 2-4
  • Dinner 5:30-6:30 (Patrol cooking)
  • Evening activity/talk/program TBD
  • Cracker Barrel

Sunday

  • Wakeup 7am.
  • Camp break down and clean up
  • Breakfast 8:30
  • Vespers
  • Depart 10am (Hike out)
  • Arrive WUM at Noon.

Canoe Merit Badge Testing Starting 10 am Sunday. Scout must sign up for this and arrange transportation ahead of time.

Help is needed:
  1. Paddle craft and a means of transporting them. See Mr. McNeil
  2. Additional trailer or vehicle for transport of paddlecraft and or camp gear.
  3. Leader for Hiking and Geocache. Needs to be familiar with the area and help with GPS use. Hold geocache sheets and check out GPS units.
  4. Hand held GPS units needed.
  5. Fishing guide needed.
  6. Service project leader.
  7. Nature study leader.
  8. Evening program leader. 
Camp Attendance Roster will be maintained at the troop trailer. Any scout leaving the camp for sports or other events must sign out and sign back in. Remember the hike in and out time. Safe scouting guidelines must be followed for scouts in leaving from and returning to camp.
