Activities
Friday 6/23
- Leave Richmond.
- 4 ½ hour drive. Approximately one hour further than Kiptopeke
- Arrive at Chincoteague.
- Setup camp.
- Cracker barrel
Saturday 6/24
- Eco Tour of Assateague Channel near the Pony Swim section. Estuary,
Ecology & History with Jay Cherrix whose family has lived on
Chincoteague since the mid 1800's. Kayaks are included in the tour.
Chaperones will be needed.
- Lunch at Camp
- Bike trip through Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge. Eat
lunch while on the trip. End up at Assateague Beach. Families can visit
the Herbert H. Bateman Educational Center, Toms Cove Visitor Center or
take a tour of the Assateague Lighthouse.
- Swimming on Assateague Beach, Lifeguards provided by NPS.
- Supper: fresh local seafood from Chincoteague.
- Campfire Program at the beach(Scout Run), Special Guests

- From Woodlake Village Parkway, take US 360 East for ~3.2 miles.
- SR 288 South for ~13 miles.
- I 95 South for ~15 miles.
- SR 629 (Rives Rd.) for ~2 miles.
- US 460 East for ~ 49 miles.
- US 58/US 460/US 13 East (Holland Rd.: a combined highway with multiple designations) for ~ 4.5 miles
- Stay on US 58/460/13 East (Portsmouth Blvd) to I 264 East for ~ 6.3 miles
- I 264 East toward Portsmouth for ~ 14 miles.
- Pass through Downtown Tunnel
- Cross Berkley Bridge
- I 264 East
- I 64 West for ~ 2 miles.
- US 13 (Northampton, Blvd.) for ~4.5 miles.
- Pay $12 toll
- Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel North for ~20 miles.
- US 13 North for ~ 63.5 miles.
- Just past Oak Hall, turn RIGHT on SR 175 (Chincoteague Rd.). Follow for ~ 10.5 miles.
- Pass Wallops Island Flight Facility on your left. (Visitors Center is on your right)
- Follow SR 175 across causeway and bridge into Chincoteague.
- LEFT on Main St.
- RIGHT on Maddox Blvd.
- At Traffic Circle, turn RIGHT into Maddox Family Campground
